Hi everyone! Well Sydney is now behind me- I counted the other night and i've been to about 21 different places since I left England, that's not too bad hey?!
I left Sydney on Monday afternoon and arrived about 5pm in Canberra. Now considering this is the capital, it lacks a lot of culture and character (obviously this is my opinion and what I saw of the place in 2 days). Walking around it seemed to be quite a quiet town in the evening, and in the day time it seems that EVERYONE is wearing a suit. Saying that, it was nice to have a break from the city, especially considering that I was going onto another big one 2 days after that.
The YHA hostel was lovely, big with a pool, sauna and jacuzzi (although the pool and jacuzzi were really cold) and good facilities. Unfortunately there were 2 schools staying on the same floor as me (which i found quite startling, wouldn't have that if i was the teacher, children mixing with the general public? there would have been an outcry in England) and, as with all kids on a school trip they were very excited and so really quite loud. On the first day I headed over to the shopping centre to pick up a few bits and bobs, and ended up getting lost! The shopping centre was massive and had some lovely shops that I wandered round in quite happily for a few hours.
The next day I went for a hunt for the parliament houses and stuff, but got lost (again) although I have no idea how and ended up at the cinema- watching (much to Chey's amusement) the film Australia. It was a great film! and the cinema was lovely- comfy seats with lots of leg room. Anyway, chatting to a few guys back at the hostel who managed to find the parliament house and saw the prime minister. They sat in on the question time and saw 2 politicians get into such a heated argument, apparently, one offered to take the other guy outside and sort out the problem there! ha!
Anyway, at midnight we wandered over to the bus stop to get the 8 hour bus to Melbourne, and arrived here at 8am. I certainly wont be missing the cramped seats trying to get some shut eye along the way, it's near impossible!
So that's all for now, very excited to be here, really wanted to see what Melbourne was about. Have yet to fall in love with it, but it's early days isn't it?!
Hope you're all ok
loadsa love xxxxx
