A motor boat picks us up at 8 am today for the short trip to the Kalabasha Temple. Our luggage is going to be transported separately and will meet us at the temple a bit later on. After all the wonderful temples we have seen, this one is a poor relation really. It is situated on the west bank of the Nile River in Nubia and was originally built around 30BC during the early Roman era but never finished. Not many tourists make it to this site and the Nubian sellers are anxious for a sale of their artefacts, and a few of our group happily oblige. It is another beautiful day and just a bit milder. Perhaps winter is coming after all. Another motor boat ride followed by a short bus trip and we arrive at the Aswan High Dam where we have a brief look around followed by lunch at the beautiful Iberotel Aswan. It is a huge hotel but we are the only guests for lunch and it looks like there isn't anyone staying there either. Across the road on the Nile River, many large luxurious ships are moored idly waiting for the tourists to come back. It is quite an unusual scene with a busy metropolis on one side of the river and on the other side, just desert as far as the eye can see.
Our flight from Aswan to Cairo takes 80 minutes after which we are bused to the Intercontinental Citystars Hotel for one night. What a beautiful hotel! Before we say goodbye to 2 of our group who head back to the USA later tonight, we have a farewell buffet dinner at the hotel. Yes more food! The food on this trip has been extraordinary and I've eaten way more than I need with tonight's meal being no exception.
