Its a shame we only had two nights at Playa Del Carmen because its beautiful and shamelessly tempting tourist trap! The bars are plentiful and the drinks are cheap!
We stayed at the Carmen Inn, which is by far the most luxurious hotel we have stayed in so far. As we were a group of three we ended up getting a master suite which had two bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen! My bed was big enough to fit at least 5-6 people in and made me feel tiny when I went to bed that night.
On our first night we headed for dinner with some of the group but didnt stay out long because of all the travelling we had done! Crossing borders is hard work!
The next day we utlised all of the hotels resources including their large swimming pool and beach bar! Then later we headed out to the main strech of shops to get supplies for our friend Pennys birthday! Penny was particularly good to us during this trip and so we felt she deserved a big celebration! We bought balloons and covered our living room floor with them, we bought a giant chocolate cake from a fancy pastelaria and we also bought her a little present! We had rose wine in keeping with the pink and white ballooons we had bought and then serenaded her with a chorus of "Happy Birthday!" when she came to our room. I think she really appreciated the effort we went to and she definitly deserved it!
That night we all went out for our farewell meal together and Veronica made a lovely speech about how much she would miss us all and we all said our goodbyes!
Afterwards we decided to hit the beach bars for Pennys birthday and sat on chairs close to the sand and next to the sea sipping our cocktails. Penny even found herself a birthday admirer who insisted on buying her a rose!
The next day we awoke feeling less than ok but very excited because we were going to swim with dolphins! We were picked up in a van at 8.30 and driven to Xel-Ha! It was like a dream! It was free food and drinks all day from any of the restaurants and it looked like a paradise island! There was a beautiful bay and a river and surrounding the bay were coves with different activities.
We first met with the dolphin people who took us down to the dolphin enclosure. We entered the water and met Sylvester and his pregant girlfriend! Sylvester was playful and friendly and felt like satin! For one hour we were able to touch him and play with him and we even got a dance and a kiss! Our hour was finished off with us lining up so the dolphins could jump over us! It was one of the best experiences ever and Kella and I instantly knew we would pay out for the DVD to relive it all over again! We are an advertisers dream!
We spent the rest of the day snorkling, inner tubing down the river and jumping off cliffs! We also made very good use of the free food stopping for drinks and ice cream whenever the hot weather started to both us!
At the end of the day we took the bus back to Playa and boarded a bus to Cancun! Our last stop before home!
