A series of strange events led me to think that this story deserves a blog all of its own.

Yesterday we were sat in the crystal blue waters of Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres. Kella and I became aware of two men swimming closer to us so we immediately chose to swim away. We spend most of our days being hassled by men shouted such classics as "I love you!" so we thought best to keep our distance. Soon afterwards they were joined by another girl and we just assumed we´d misjudged them so we carried on floating in the water. Then the girl approached us and asked us were we were staying, this again was not a suprise as isla isn't well designed for backpackers and there is only one hostel so people are often out to find cheaper accomodation. We chatted for a while and her two male friends joined us. We learned that they were staying in an apartment near to us and we told them about our lack of money and so (after talking amongst themselves in a foreign language we later learned was Hebrew) they offered to cook us dinner. We happily agreed and made arrangements to meet them later that night.

It was only after they left that we started to wonder what we'd just done. Blame it on British cynicism but Lottie and I immediately thought we were at the beginnings of a very gorey horror film! We left to meet them by a fountain and couldn´t help but ponder the strangeness of the situation. Three strangers inviting three young girls to dinner we thought alarms bells should have been going off! But, needless to say, we were hungry travellers so decided to go and meet them. We arranged to meet them at 8 in the main square by the fountain and sure enough at 8 they arrived to show us to their apartment and just as we´d started to laugh to ourselves about how silly we'd been they led us down a dark alleyway! Our minds were racing as to where we were being led.

When we arrived at the apartment there was a table with six plates and six forks. Cups for everyone and pre-dinner snacks. There was spaghetti cooking on the hob and wine being chilled in the fridge! They completely spoiled us and it just goes to show what kind of culture we are brought up in to make us wary of even the kindess strangers. We were all so touched at how willing these people were to take us in and feed us without any alterior motives. We ended up having a fantastic night with them and ended up dancing the night away at a beach club at the back of our hostel!

Just goes to show how nice some people can be!
