We set off for the northern most resort in the Yasawa group of islands in some seriously rough seas. So much so that people were disembarking at the first island, too sick to continue further. Of those that braved the rest of the journey we reckon 90% were sea sick, the poor staff couldn't hand the sick bags out quick enough. We were fortunately in the other 10%. Anyway, the arduous five hour trip to get to Oarsmans bay would be worth it. The Lonely Planet billed it was the best budget resort in Fiji, with welcoming happy staff, wonderful food and one of the best beaches in Fiji, the world even! What a load of rubbish.
Granted the beach was nice and would have been nicer had a cyclone not just hit, but the resort, "Oh my God!". The staff were surly and dis-interested, the food was nothing short of crap and we were told specific times we had to eat and the dorm was awful. We tried to make the best out of a bad situation and have a beer, only they didn't have any. Nor did they have any sort of soft drinks apart from six cans of diet coke and to top it off they were charging us for filtered rain water!
We had arrived on the island along with Laura and Paul (from Scotland) and Carrie (from Canada). Together we decided to be positive and make the most of it. However, the following day after a crap snorkel (well, we saw a bright blue starfish at least) and a half hearted Meke show by the staff, we made a smart move and decided to pack our bags and leave.
