Praia do Forte is definitely more geared towards tourists, but thankfully the Brazilian variety. We checked into the only 'backpackers' in town which was absolutely gorgeous with large rooms set around a central courtyard strung with hammocks and only 5 minutes walk from the beach. Yet another stunning Brazilian beach with clear warm waters for swimming between the moored fishing launches whilst looking back to the palm fringed shore and the small town church overlooking the bay. We strolled 2 minutes away from the village beach and found a near deserted bay to enjoy the sea and sun for the afternoon. A few hours later, suitably baked by the scorching sun, we went in search of a cool regreshing drink. Passing through a palm lined path we were delighted to spot a family of tiny fluffy spider monkeys playing in the trees. Once they'd stopped showing off for us we hit the main drag in Praia, a pretty pedestrianised street centered with lush tropical gardens, playgrounds and the occasional beer and BBQ hut; its flanks lined with shops and restaurants garlore. We ducked into the first one that said bar on the door. As Caipirinhas have a way of doing we soon got chatting to the people on the next table, one of whom it turned out was one of the owners (a Brit). Introductions to the full waiting staff ensued and we were kept happy and content with drinks, food and conversation well past our bedtime.
Relaxing on the beach the next day Emma steadily worked herself into a frenzy until she counldn't contain her excitement any longer and we headed home for sausage and Heinz baked beans!!! (Thanks again Shazza!)
Full of beans the next morning we took a trip to Praias turtle sanctury. Working with the local community and fishermen they have saved thousands of endangered turtles in the last half decade. One particular turtle has been rescued from nets 50 times, you'd think he'd learn! But despite this sterling work it was still sad to see such large beutiful creatures in small pools for the tourists benefit.
Over the next couple of days we took walks along deserted beaches, swam in crystal clear waters, bathed in natural pools in the reef at low tide, and even managed a good old fashioned English lock in at the beach bar.
Our last night sat outside under the surreal sight of Christmas lights strung in palm trees, Emma managed to convince the lovely young friendly bar staff to pull a few capoeira moves for her. One last Mojito for the road and onwards to Itacare.
