I was up bright and early for a run this morning, most of the girls in my room had just got in to bed! Tim said I had to go for a run to Brighton Beach, so away I went. Only problem being that it's a never ending coast path, I'm so useless at deciding to turn round at a sensible place! I didn't even notice I'd passed Brighton Beach, but carried on to Hampton, Sandringham, Half Moon Bay and Black Rock Beach. The views are wonderful, especially past Hampton as the path becomes more of a rugged, sandy path atop the cliffs, as opposed to the main walking path from St Kilda.
As I'm now used to in Australia, I met plenty of other runners and walkers, but I was amazed to see hordes of serious cyclists flying along the coast road in both directions. There were hundreds of them! Every now and then I'd pass one or two stopping for coffee and cake in a nearby cafe. Looks like a pretty great way of spending a Saturday if you ask me.
I stopped at a beach hut for powerade on my way back towards St Kilda and had to ask the price of it two or three times in disbelief. I was desperate though, I won't tell you how much I paid! Some of the paths I was running on had signs saying "You are now on the IronMan course 24th March 2013" so perhaps there are even more people out training than usual. There were several fitness clubs, boot camps and life saving clubs out training on the beach too.
I went back in to the city centre this afternoon so I could go to mass at St Patrick's Cathedral. Not many people go to church over here - the huge cathedral was very empty for a city with such a big population. There was a great party atmosphere about the city centre - I guess because it's Saturday and the annual food and wine festival has just started.
I can't believe that I'm about to spend my last night in a hostel before going home! I shall be making the most of my bed tonight as it's the last one I'll be seeing for nearly 48 hours...
