After a brief pit stop in Dargaville for fuel and coffee (not much else to see there), we had a long and easy drive back towards Auckland this morning. We had unfinished business with the Coast to Coast Walkway so decided to go to One Tree Hill in Cornwall Park, just south of the city. We climbed to the top for panoramic views of the city and beyond, grabbing an ice cream on the way back down - the first time we'd really treated ourselves since arriving.
However, treating ourselves did rather become a theme for the day... We then drove to Orewa Beach 30km or so north of Auckland, where we are now staying at the Top 10 holiday park on a powered site with a sea view - not bad! Orewa is a much bigger town than we were expecting and the campsite is within walking distance of several shops and restaurants. Admittedly, we were most excited about the two huge supermarkets! Much better choice than the small ones we'd used so far...
So we took the opportunity to buy a bottle of wine, chocolate, Natural Confectionery Co. sweets and a very cheap but good quality Japanese takeaway! No cooking or washing up for us and I'm ashamed to say, no run either! Oh well, I suppose we're allowed a day off once in a while! Besides, who could resist a Teriyaki Chicken Donburi with sticky rice, fresh veg and miso soup for $11 (about £5.50)??!
