Amey and Emma's Gap Year!
Hi Everyone!!
Well, we are now in Australia - wooooo! Its awesome!
Got to Sydney on 1 May, Rob met us at the Airport. Sydney was good fun, we were there for about 5 days, went to the Aquarium in Darling Harbour and to the best market known to man called Paddy's Market with the worlds cheapest fruit, love it! Also went over to Manly Beach on the ferry which was good but very cold as there was quite a bit of wind coming off the sea. Sunset over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House was great as we were sailing back.
Got on the Oz Experience bus on Saturday morning, horrendously early (think i spelt that wrong) and made our way to a little place inland in the bush called Barrington, was so amazing there, completely isolated, on the Barrington River, we stayed in little mining huts which was a bit crazy and a bit scabby but you've got to love it. In the evening we had all you can eat pizza for $10, yummy, they made it in a massive pizza oven that they have in the sitting hut/room! Then we all played drinking games and went in the hottubs which were basically holes in the ground which they filled with water that had been boiled over a fire, scorching hot to be hoenst but nice for the time that you're skin could bear it!
Then on Sunday we left Barrington for a place on the coast called Cresent Head where we had surf camp. They hostel/camp was amazing, best facilities for what it was and proper matresses!! Joy! We had a surf lesson when we got there in the late afternoon until sundown, was quite hilarious really. Amey managed to stand up on about 2 waves and was very pleased with herself until she saw Rob and some others loving it and doing better! Emma had to stop fairly early as rampant man with ridiculously long hair surfed into her head.
Had the nicest supper cooked for us by Sarah, the girlfriend of the owner...so much food and the nicest meal since travelling...then Rob found a guitar and the whole group sat around the fire listening then we moved onto a hut/camp they have made on the beach and played cards and chatted, was so chilled out and awesome......GOT WOKEN UP AT 6.30AM TO GO BLOODY SURFING THE NEXT DAY - next impressed! But was awesome, the conditions were perfect, no wind at all compared to the day before when Amey nearly feel over from the wind!
Was much more successfulo for everyone too, Rob did loads better and Amey stood up on 4 waves!! Improvement! Emma got wiped out again though and then, insult to injury, her board hit her on the head so she stopped early again and went back and had the first shower - good plan!!
The we had the 6 hour drive to Byron Bay which is where we are now. Staying in a ridiculously hippy freelove hostel called Arts Factory, lots of weed and silly skirts everywhere but its quite funny. Sunbathed all day yesterday and doing the same today.
Love to you all, miss you lots. love Amey and Emma xxxxxxxxx
