Santiago, Chile!!!
I arrived in Santiago from Auckland 1. January, actually before I left Auckland....haha! Yeah the time and the dateline is somewhere in between, so I got to experience 2 days of 1. January. And its not excactly the day you want to experiece too many times, everything is closed, everyone is hungover etc....And I also had a pretty hard time leaving Severin back in Auckland, his plane to LA was 2 hours later than mine, so we had the classic teardrizzled goodbye at the gate. Couldn´t stop crying in the plane either, got some weird and worried looks from people around me so had to get my act together! Poor Severin arrived safely at home 36 hours later- to minus 12 and lots of snow! Haha!
So when I arrived at my hostel in Santiago everyone was pretty much in hangover mood since the hostel had hosted a big New Years Eve Party the day before. And since everything was closed in Santiago I decided to just chill myself and met some cool people at the hostel, including some girls from Holland and a pair of lads from Ireland. Went to bed early that evening because of the jetlag, and slept well into the next day!
The 2 Irish boys, called Justin and Rob, had already been in Santiago for 2 weeks, but hadn´t done much sighseeing so I manged to drag them around town for some hours. Santiago is a very nice city (but HOT), and we walked around the different barrios and took the tram up to the hill to watch the city. After some hours in the sun we returned to our excellent hostel (la casa roja) and made sangria and chilled by the pool. La casa roja is a really good backpacker place, which even has a pool, and I recommend anyone going to Santiago to stay there:) So we spent the evening at La Casa, Rob is a chef so he made an amazing meal for us before the owner dragged us out to Bellavista because the neighbours had complained about the noise. Got back to the hostel at 5.30, just in time for my flight which I had to depart for at 8....needless to say I was a little bit tired that day!
