We have just got back from an amazing boat trip around the Whitsunday Islands - sailing around, sleeping on deck, being fed great food, drinking cheap 'goon' (wine - if you can call it that) and meeting some fabulous people!
It was such a great trip, the Whitsundays are beautiful and we had fantastic weather. We stopped off at Whitehaven beach (see the photo!) - beautiful swathes of the purest white sand you've ever seen and the clearest water. Got our stinger suits and waded in with all the sting rays! Had a bit of a shock when a reef shark swam at crazy speeds about 1m away, to eat a shoal of fish! We went to some great snorkelling points (amidst the jellyfish - boo...) but swam with turtles, so close we could stroke them, as well as some amazing and huge fish. Some of the coral had died a bit and is getting bleached which is sad, but other parts were amazing.
The highlight was me and Sean doing our first dive - INCREDIBLE! We had the time of our lives (after being scared to death about the breathing and equalising!). It was just us two and Rhianne, a lovely German, with our instructor who was fab. It was so incredible to go through holes in the coral and be right in the action, swimming with the fish as if it was just natural. We got down to 7m which is not bad for a first dive and were down for about 30-40 minutes, and just loved it! Looking to do my certificate now so I can do more - fantastic experience!
We are back on dry land now back at Airley beach for the afterparty (going for the free pizza more than anything!) and our free digeredoo lesson before heading upto Townsville tomorrow!
