Hi Everyone
(Hi Mum and Dad! x)
It was great to see your messages, keep um coming!
Here is our second entry!!!!!!!
We are having a fantastic time and have really settled in to India now.
Monday the 29th Jan we had an early start getting up at 5:00am!!!! This was very hard after having NO sleep, think our body clocks still hadn't adjusted. We then set off on our 6 hour train journey, from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. It was shocking to see all the homeless people sleeping on the streets in the early hour of the morning, they were sleeping everywhere imaginable. (Tim says to say about the few spots of rain on the way to mumbai Central!). We had loads of food on the train; Chai (Tea), Tomato soup and even curry for breakfast! I felt like Michael Palin! We also had some nice Indian music being played!
We arrived in Ahmedabad where it was very hot but not so humid and smoggy. We had the afternoon free but Bikki our guide had advised us to visit Gandhi's ashram, which we went to on our first tuk-tuk! It was crazy but i actually find them great fun, Tim is very entertaining with his Crickey's and Steady on's! The ashram was very relaxing and interesting. We also visited our first temple, first of many we are sure! In the evening we went for a fantastic meal.
Tuesday 30th Jan.
We got a local bus from Ahmedabad to Udaipur - there was a disappointing lack of chickens and goats aboard! Our coach driver did make up for the novelty factor by smoking weed throughout the journey! The country scenery was beautiful, we drove though quite a few granit and marble quarrys. We stopped for MORE Chai in a truck stop!
Our hotel in Udaipur was fantastic, very rustic and homely with gorgeous furniture. We had a pool, courtyard and plenty of monkeys!
Later, we saw a Muslim procession they were celebrating their new year, it was very crowded. After we went for more curry in beautiful surroundings. Here we smoked a vanilla flavour bong - Sheesha!
Weds 31st Jan
Morning tour of the Jagnish temple which included red dots on forehead and karma-sutra on the carvings! Then tour of the city palace and museum and the minature artwork. We then had free time and wondered the streets of Udaipur, seeing an elephant on our travels. After taking some photos of the lake we went on a boat ride around the Lake Palace hotel (where they filmed James Bond 'Octop**** #39;).
In the evening we saw traditional Rajasthani dancing involving fire on there heads, puppet dancing and finally a woman with 8 pots on here head and balancing on a tray! It all happens in India! To finish the day we had another lovely meal on the side of the lake, where we had views of the Palace and Lake Palace hotel all lit up.
Today, 1st Feb
We travelled through the Aravelli hills to an amazing Jain temple. Here we ate in their canteen, where the food is only made from lentils other veg. We had to eat with our fingers using our right hand.
Jodpur doesn't seem to have the same relaxed vibe as Udaipur but the rooftop restaurant gives some amazing views of the fort and the city.
We hope this sums up the last few days for you, we promise we will post some pics soon!
Love to you all,
Emili and Tim xxxxxxxxxxxx
