hey long time no speak. back on the main land and im flying to OZ tonight. well this is going to be a long entry so much to tell you...
so i arrived on Mana Island, made lots of friends, went snorkelling everyday, played volleyball, sat in the sea(it was way too hot to sit on the beach so you just lay in the sea). i paid to go spear fishing which was brilliant. we had to trek over to the other side of the island kinda like jungle but not anything like peru! then snorkelling we had to catapult a spear, trying to catch fish, i was terrible at it but the fijians caught lots which we ate for tea! now iv never liked fish but i figured id try it seeing i went fishing, first time iv ever enjoyed it!! saw 3 white tipped coral reef sharks. only abuot 1.5 m but was brilliant beig able to swim with them. they caught a puffer fish, so when the spear hit it, it just explodedn puffed up, they letthat go as i dont think you can eat it.
other times i went snorkelling we took out dohnuts to feed the fish, so wish i had my camera, so many colourful fish surrounded us was amazing, i must say they love dohnuts. saw sharks pretty much everytime we went out in the sea!! never felt threatened by them though. sting rays, cuttle fish, squid there was everything in the water!
on the other side of the island was sunset beach so in the eveing we'd wakl over to watch the sunset, i think everytime we went it got cloudy, and when we didnt bother we had amazing sunsets.
in the evenings the hostel would put on different activities like limbo, dancing and so on. one night we had kava, which is this brown muddy water they drink at ceremonies such as weddings. we all sat round on the floor and had to do so many claps and shout 'BULA' (fijian hello) was good fun, didnt taste great though.
there would be a huge thunderstorm normally at night, so id fill up my water bottle as the water cost soo much to buy. if it rained in the day we'd have to turn to a card game to pass the time.
i went over to another island called beach comber island. its suppose to be the biggest party island in the pacific. i had two friends that had gone, so we went to meet them. was a tiny island, the resort took up the whole island. had a mini golf course in the middle and a spa pool. was alot more expensive as they milk the name. it was alot nicer accomodation and food too. did some of the best snorkelling iv ever done there. i only went for one night then returned to mana. had a brilliant night, there was only about 50 people there and not many stayed up, so not exactly the biggest party island while i was there but i didnt mnid, i was in good company so had a brilliant night. 'sorry to jacob for losing his flip flops '!!!
i managed to slice my right foot on coral in the sea, very painful and it got pretty infected. as i was hopping around on my left i managed to cut tht one too. so i wasnt able to walk for the last 2 days on the island. had to keep bandaging them up, and staying out of the sea, which made it soo hard to cool down, i sat in the shade all day and made jewellery out of coconuts with the fijians on one of my last days.
everyone is soo friendly out on the island, made me feel right at home, i would reccomend mana to anyone! i was lucky with the weather and with the people i met, so all in all was the best time!! i think iv told you the main points, o my feet are getting a little better like i can tip toe around as the cuts are in my arch. and i got antibiotics fromt he doctor, so hopefully i can go in the sea in OZ.
lots of love xxxxxx
