Ellie's Travels
Well its been an exciting few days since we arrived. Have written off the campervan already. Have seen the beaches, rainforests, caves, aboroginal art, kangaroos and survived cyclone Larry.
First night was spent overlooking Ellis Beach, which was beautiful to wake up to.
Then we decided to head up north to a rainforest, where we swam in the river. Very hot.
Wanting to experience everything that day we drove to Chillagoe in the outback. Managed to avoid a couple of Kangeroos whilst driving. Found some aboroginal art. which was interesting.
Third night decided to sleep out the way in a field, everything was going ok until I heard gunshots and we saw flashlights coming at us.
The next night headed to Lake Tineroo where the fun began. A lady warned us that a cyclone was on its way so rather than camp in the middle of nowhere, headed for a caravan park.
It rained all night and at 7am the wind started to pick up really quickly, branches started to hit the van. We decided to get out quick after Kev and Mark had finished there breakfast. We walked up to the reception and sheltered there, 40 minutes later a 30 foot pine tree landed on top of the roof, crushing the bed and shower.
Was scary being in the middle of it but interesting to watch trees getting up rooted in front of us and branches flying towards us. It lasted four hours with winds up to 200km, went for a walk in it and nearly got blown away.
Its caused alot of devestation we were 25k from Innersfail, which got flattened, luckily nobody was killed. Another cyclone on its way will find out tomorrow. Have travelled all day with our replacement camper, think were far enough south not to hit it.
