Wed 26th Lake Taupo
Unsurprisingly I was nursing a bad hangover today so I spent most of the morning in bed feeling sorry for myself. I did eventually make it out of bed to look at the lake and have another mooch around town but since the Tongariro Crossing trek had been cancelled due to bad weather (which I could't understand as weather seemed fine but apparently it gets cancelled a lot) and I couldn't afford another skydive there wasn't much else to do. The Tongariro Crossing would have been amazing to do as it is one of the top 10 walks in the world but it obviously wasn't meant to be. I didn't make it to the spa park which was a natural spa in the river but it wouldn't have mattered even if I had, as tragically two guys had been caught in the river and one of them had drowned. The one who survived was actually a friend of SJ and was inconsolable and flying home immediately. It really makes you think when you hear stories like that.

That evening there was free pizza at the hostel bar and Kate and I were expecting to do some serious fighting with people to claim a piece but we were pleasantly surprised when they kept bringing more and more pizza out and it was good pizza too! Once it was all gone we left!
