This morning we all had a little sleep in as we were so tired! At 11:15am we had a bike tour around Amsterdam! Simon and I woke up a bit earlier and walked down to the local bagel cafe and I tried my first ever bagel! :) we then went back to the group and went and got our bikes. We got split in to 3 groups - I was with Simon and a few of the girls so it was good! The tour was so much fun! Bikes are the predominant transport so everyone gives way to you! Amsterdam is built on a big dam, so the town is actually below sea level! That's where the name comes from! Amster-Dam! We went through Vondola park where in the night time you can have sex or whatever you please as long as you're 200m away from children's play equipment. After the tour simon and I hired bikes and continued riding around the whole day! A lot of people went and smoked marijuana and tried truffles, which is like mushrooms. We had the best day! We got to see a lot of the town. We stopped off at Anne Franks museum which was about a family that hid above their fathers jam shop during the Nazi occupation because otherwise they'd be taken away to concentration camps. Anne kept a diary that wasn't destroyed and the only surviving member of the family Otto, their father had it given to him after liberation when he was released! Otto lived until 91 and helped set up the museum. It was really interesting! I find it so sad though that when families were taken away they were split up the two girls Anne and Margot went to different camps than their parents and only weeks before liberation the girls contracted typhoid and died. Their mother died of exhaustion and Otto survived! After that we rode around some more and went to china town for lunch! I had been craving Asian for weeks - it was amazing!! :) just before we stopped it had started raining and it didn't stop over lunch it just got worse! We had to ride back in the rain - it was so much fun! Simon giggled the whole way back! We were absolutely drenched - sopping wet! Ha ha. On the way back I had to stop and run in and buy a cheap cardigan because I didn't pack enough warm clothes! We finally got home and the first thing I did was have a warm shower!! I got dressed and went down to the bar to have a drink with everyone before leaving - we had our farewell dinner. It was a floating Chinese restaurant - it was massive and so cool! At dinner one of the boys smoked too much and ended up greening out! In the space of a day he had 4 joints and a space cake! He vomited on his plate and eventually was taken home! After dinner we had a party cruise along the canals - free alcohol for 1.5 hours! It was so much fun! After that we hopped off and went to a bar called Pirates! Our tour leader ended up on the bar doing a strip tease for everyone! A big group of us decided to go to another bar because it was really expensive and packed and on our way one of the boys collapsed because he had drank too much absinthe and cheap wine! Lucky for us we had two doctors on tour with us and they talked the police out of taking him away and got him home! Simon and I after a few hours made our way home. A homeless man helped us with directions and then asked for money! Ha ha. I had an amazing night! It's going to be sad saying goodbye to everyone :(
