Another big day for us .
Very convivial big Yorkshire breakfast in the dining Room of the farm cottages
One couple from Ballarat & a very fit older couple from Birmingham .they seem to be regular walkers and although now retired are spending their retirement in their own rather than travel abroad
We spent some time with Peggy our hostess(a very friendly Yorkshire woman)
She had cooked us a magnificent breakfast including black pudding which Geoff had never tried(he was pleasantly surprised)
We asked Peggy's advice on how to go aboutsight seeing in York
She produced a printed sheet she had put together herself covering a walking route of places of interest
We drove to the outskirts of York and took a "park and ride" bus to the city centre
There seems to be quite a few cities we have researched which have this system
It keeps the traffic out of the city and stops very expensive parking spots.Parking very expensive in UK
Even when the saints go on an outing to a city park it can cost up to £2 per hour and then they might have to walk two to four blocks to the park
Peggy's fact sheet proved to be wonderful even to the likes of go to Marks & Spencer's to the cafe on the third floor and the end window with a good view over York Minster
We began the walk by climbing up to the tower of the old York Castle to get a view all over York
We walked around the city for about three hours before going back to get the car
Will never forget hearing the bells playing "my grandfathers clock"
We set off for Newcastle arriving at our guest house at a out four
Had a much needed cuppa and then a walk to find some dinner
Whilst our I had a walk in the park whilst Geoff took off up the hill in the direction of a fort
Not only were the gardens beautiful but the fort was dated 160 A D and beside it the start of Hadrians wall
