After a lovely couple of days of wine tasting in the?Napa Valley (mmmm Mumm) we moved on to San Francisco. We were staying in a great location - a hostel right off Union Square. Spent our first day exploring Union Square before going to a baseball game in the evening - Giants vs Houston. Giants won yey!!!
Next day we went and spent some time behind bars at Alcatraz - quite an eery place - met an actual in mate as well!!! Then we explored Fishermans Wharf and saw the sea lions at pier 39. Then we caught a tram up to Chinatown and explored the streets and grabbed somne dim sum fior dinner. Next day we walked up the old Ferry Building which has recently been done up and now is rather posh. We then walked down to the Civic centre and I managed to get the worst hair cut on record - think crew cutt and you pretty much have it!!! Then spent some more time around Union Square. Couldn't leave San Francisco without seeing the Golden Gate Bridge so on our way out we drove to the lookout point to catch a glimpse - top was covered in mist but we got the general idea!!! We also visited the famous Lombard Street switch back - quite cool.
Then headed south to Monterey. The infamous mist has been hanging around for the last few days so the views on the drive down werewn't the best. Did go to the aquarium of course which was grest fun - liked the sea otters alot! Also went to posh Pebble beach Golf course for a snoop and did the 17 mile drive. Carmel was really cute with lots of nice shops and pretty buildings. Loads of dogs in funny outfits all around the place as well!
Spent yesterday driving down Big Sur (again pretty misty), pretty nice drive. Spent the afternoon exploring hearst castle which is basically a big (well very big) house that some rich guy decided to build in the 1920's in European style. Worth a look especially for the nice pools but we both found the place a little weird. Then a quick stopover in a motel in Morro Bay which promiosed a laudry....you guessed it no laundry! Thats why this blog is being written from a laundromat in santa barbara! Hoping to explore this afternoon, seems like a really nice place.
