Ok, I realise that were now in Canada but we are still writing about Fiji...little bit behind.
So our second resort was a place called White Sandy Beach, and it did indeed have a white sandy beach. We only had to travel about an hour to get there so that was cool and our first impressions was that it was a bit busier which was actually quite nice. We were greeted in the same welcoming way and were all given coconuts to drink from while we were waiting to 'check in'. All five of ended up in the same 'room' which was basically a huge barn/hut with no windows and chicken wire over the gaps in the walls! There were ten beds in this particular room and we were basically sleeping on top of each other, the roof was thatch and compleatly infested with various insects all waiting to say hello!..However, after we ate, the guys at the resort made a big bonfire on the beach and everyone was just sitting around drinking and trading stories, which is always fun. Once we actually got into our mosquito nets it wasnt that bad and i fell asleep pretty sharpish, i only woke up a couple of times because this one guy snored like a champ, but you get used to that.
We decided to move on the next day to another island/resort called Coralview. It was only about another hour away, sailing south, so once again we boarded the little speed boat transfering us to the main boat to the sounds of the resort staff singing there 'farewell songs'. When we got to Coralview we decided to upgrade our room from a dorm to a double due to the fact that the bunkbeds we would be sleeping in were about 5foot long and about 4foot high together! The room we were in was really nice, it reminded me of a little flintstone's hut, but it was clean and safe so it was a nice little luxury.
By this time, its worth saying that I really wasnt feeling well at all. My diet of cold fried rice and some unidentifiable meat was really messing with my stomach...just thought you should know ;)
On our first night we had one of those classic Fiji moments, which is to say that when we returned to our room to sleep (luckily this is one of the only islands to have electricity throughout the night), we were just doing our routine check of the room for various flying friends and we saw the biggist, fattest lizard i had seen yet! It wouldnt have been so bad if it wasnt running around the room terrorising us, but we decided it had to go. At one point it was low enough for me to reach but as soon as i got close it backed away....f***er. So i went to find help from one of the staff and he decided to assist us by bringing a huge stick to our room to murder the poor lizard! I then spent the next 10 minutes assisting murder with a tiny fijian man until he eventually killled the lizard and carried it out whilst it was stuck to the weapon of choice...For the record, it didnt want it dead, just out of the room...and ele was stoof outside for the whole experience so she didnt really have a chance to object.
Unfortunatly, the weather for the next couple of days wasnt that great so i played a lot Nintendo DS (courtesy of steve) and once again played alot of s***head.
We spent 3 days at Coralview in total and then headed back to the mainland town of Nadi which took about 6 hours on the boat. But that can wait until next time...
Until then, see you all soon
