Heyy!!
So i have safely arrived after two flights and what seems liked an eternity getting through Cancun Immigration! it took so long infact that by the time i had got out of the airport and got the shuttle to my hotel in Playa del Carmen i was convinced i would have missed the orientation meeting and have to spent my first night of travelling alone with Mexican TV! How depressing!! Luckily when i arrived the man at reception gave me a map and directed me towards the restaurant!
When i arrived at the restaurant there were 16 people and the tour guide, all girls and 3 lads. People are from Oz, NZ, Switzerland, Norway, England and me. The tour guide Adriana is a crazy 5 foot Cost Rican with quite an infectious laugh. When i seen the menu i thought 'oh dear these people dont have a budget at all!' as all the meals, even tiny meals, were at least $20 dollars and some people had huggeee plates. I was starving tbf so i ordered anyway only to find when paying the bill that the amount was in Pesos so soooo much cheaper which was quite the relief! lol
That night we went out to some of the local bars. Drinks are served as 1 litre cocktails in large polystyrene cups. So after a few we were all quite merry! The nightclub was a good mix of tourists and mexicans. We had met up with the tour group who had just finished the same tour as we are doing so it was good to hear their tips and suggestions. The music was all very spanish but still good. There were quite a few dance offs which were entertaining.
The next day steph (my roommate for the tour) and I took a bus and went to a nearby town called Tulum. We went to the beach for a while and went to a bar for some Guava cocktails. Most of the beach bars in Central America seem to have swings for seats or hammocks so we chilled there for a while then decided to be culture vultures so went to see the Mayan ruins. They were decent but let down slightly by the lack of information on the sight and the purpose of each of the buildings. The sun was starting to set which was quite nice so we got the bus back to the hotel to meet the group for dinner. The staple food in restaurants seems to be tacos with refried beans and onions and then tortilla crispa and salsa on the side. And I do love a good crisps and dip combo so no complaints from me!
Everyone was pretty knackered after dinner as we had alll been in the sun all day so had a night in so we could get up the next day at 6am to go to Belize. I am obviously not a morning person so you can imagine how delighted i was to get up that early!
