On our last day in Leh we took a van to Phyang, a monastery (and a village) in a valley nearby. The monastery stands high looking over a very green valley surrounded by the usual dusty 5000m high rocks. Those monks chose a pretty amazing location for their stuff. The templum itself has great painted rooms, loads of buddha and divinities sculptures, some with more welcoming faces than others... We were lucky enough to join the monks for their annual celebration. Their main Lama was visiting and they spent the whole day performing : playing loads of instruments, dancing, acting in small comic scenes which were apparently extremely funny for the local crowd. Incredible costumes, you will see some from the pics! We were told the whole show/ritual was an act of purification from the bad instincts and feelings so we tried to feel part of it at our most in order to get a bit purified as well. I think it worked!
