After two days of trekking, we spent one night and nearly 2 days in Halong Bay. This was one of the places Ed and I were the most excited about going, and it was pretty awesome! We had our own private boat, with cute little cabins and spent the first day doing a bit of kayaking and some swimming. Ed jumped off the top of the boat, everyone was impressed! Had some delicious food onboard, mostly seafood, yum!
The next day we sailed around for a bit and went to some impressive caves before heading back to Hanoi. Wish we'd had more time here!
After a free day in Hanoi, we boarded the night train to Hue, Vietnam's old capital. The train journey was, interesting! We had stocked up on alcohol and snacks in preparation. The rooms were disgusting, the sheets were pretty gross and it smelt of feet. So we got pretty drunk and forgot about it. The next morning I found a dead bug under my sheet.
Got to Hue and looked round the imperial city, some ruins and temples. Also went to the big local market, lots of food and local produce. The following day, Ed, Kirstie and myself went on a DMZ trip, which took us to old US army bases and some tunnels which the Vietnamese built to hide from the US in the war. They lived below ground for 6 years, and 17 children were born there. It was an eye-opener. We got to go into the tunnels and it was so tiny. I could barely stand up and had I been any biger I probably would have got stuck down there. Was such a good day!
The next day we headed to Hoi-An! More on this later xx
