We arrived in Budapest from Vienna, a two and a half our train ride. We got to the apartment, small but really nice. The landlady has a big gentle Bull Mastif, called Charlie. Sjyana wanted to stay and pet the dog or bring it home to Boston. We're hoping Winston is doing ok back home.
We headed up to the castle and palace and the Fisherman's Bastion on the Buda side. The bastion is fairly modern but looks historic, it gives fantastic views over the Danube, the massive and elegant Parliament building and Pest. Buda pest was 2 separate cities for a long time. As we walked down the hill, a beautiful full moon came up over the Danube.
We ate goulash soup (Evelyn is loving the goulash, its just about all she has eaten these first few days) and a brilliant Beef Stew with egg and barley, at the " For Sale Pub". We wouldn't have picked it by the name, the landlady recommend it. All the walls are covered with paper notices, originally they might have been for sale notices, now they are records of people's travels. We made one and wonder if it will be there if we come back.
All the apartments we've stayed in have really tall ceilings, this one had a bedroom just big enough for a double bed, so they made a sleeping loft above, Evelyn was very happy to stay up top.
