Well, after a very non eventful and quick flight I am now here in Vietnam, in Saigon actually. I have landed 2 days before Tet (Vietnamese New Year) and what can I say, this city is CRAZY! Theres soooo many motorbikes, i have never seen so many in my life. The roads are wide and sweeping and the architecture is beautiful, I think lots of French influences. There are many coloured lanterns and lights strung up every where and lots and lots of flowers. The energy is palpable, I cant wait to explore properly tomorrow. So far, everyone seems friendly, based on my experience with 3 vietnamese people! I picked a hotel at random from my guidebook and the very nice and chatty cab driver took me there, but it was full up. So the girl behind the desk went on the hunt for a hotel that wasnt booked and I have one across the street. It seems fine, its a tall narrow building and my room is at the top of 6 flights of VERY narrow and VERY slippery stairs. (you cant wear your shoes indoors, so coming down them with my bags will be interesting.) The room is fine, very clean, with a small fridge, hot water shower, and a comfy double bed. Theres even a wardrobe and a TV, this is luxury! It seems a bit noisy but that could be cos my neighbour has his TV on very loudly. Hopefully it wont stop me sleeping later. its 7.30pm here, I am going to find an ATM (I need dong, the local currency, otherwise dealing in dollars is going to be expensive)and something to drink, maybe a new sim card. and thats going to be it for me.
