Last night I went down to the river for dinner again. They are still chucking water, but now it is getting worse cos they are doing bog laps in utes with drums of water. I dont see why it is soo cool? If I wanted to do that I could have stayed home and probably would not have go any water borne diseases. Anyway I sat in the 'restaurant' eating dinner and some d*** sprayed me. I jumped up and grabbed him by the throat and was gonna give him a knuckle sarnie and his wife grabbed my hand to stop me. When she found out what he did she slaped him for me.
I booked my ticket for V V from a guesthouse around the corner from where I was staying. It was cheaper for the ticket but too expensive to stay at nearly $10/night. This morning I had to hump my pack around the corner and wait to be picked up. Thank god I didnt stay here cos it is full of Pommie gap year kids in full party mode. They were mostly checking out. Good news.. They are heading for Vang Vieng, and their taking their water pistols. mmm Great....This is HELL.
Vang Vieng is dramatic. The kharst hills on the other side af the river make it one of the most dramatic places I have been. I would love to stay and have a bit of a look around but I will be on the first bus outa here tomorrow. The water throwing has got out of control now. The buckets are bigger or use a hose and now they use coloured water. I booked into the cheapest **** ho
le I could find so I dont sleep in cos I wanna make the first bus. I am paying $3 for tonight so I might try to get some pics for you to show you what $3 buys.
I might change my itinery again. I HATE Laos and might fly back to Vietnam ASAP if I can get a flight. Laos New Year is HELL. I was gonna change when I realised it was New Year now I wish I had and gone to Cambodia. And the beer is warm!!!!!!!
I had a bit of a sad yesterday but after dishing out a coupla knuckle sarnies, an average night sleep ande I have booked on the first bus out of here I feel a little better. I could go 4hr back to Vientiane of 6hr to LP so Im gonna press on. I can fly from LP but flights are full for a few days. Vang Vieng is a party town. You can buy any drug you want from opium to yaba, pot and meth, you name it. You should smell the pot at the flea pit I stayed in. Last night we were drinking beer over ice cos it was hot and was the only way to cool it down.
Lonely planet says VV has the best value accomodation in Laos. I think the opposite. The places I checked were poor value compared to what I have had so far. I think all the druged up pommie gap year ******* are paying too much and pushing up the prices. Of all the places I checked out the brothel was the best value but at $12 was too much for me.
I woke up early this morning and thought the sun was up. I got up, had a shower and headed out to find total darkness. Best guess it was 3 or 4 am. I walked around the place for a while anyway. The light I saw through the holes in the wall ( my room doesnt have windows) was the bathroom light from the communal bathroom. I went back to the palace to hang around and did some reading till it was really light. I went and got some pic and went to breakfast. Im now waiting for the first bus outa here.

Ngaere Vang Vieng was a very interesting place. The moutains were great, the stupid idiots on the river are unbelievable.Sounds like what we saw. Cambodia is a much nicer place. ( beer for 50c) If you can, get a flight to Siem Reap. I think you would like looking around the ruins. If you are going on to Luang Prabang, don't expect too much. It is nicer than where you are but not a lot to see. The water fall was cool. Take a bus ride - don't hike through the bush to get to it.
chris+kate dish out knuckle sarnies for all the locals barry hall, have you found much meat on a stick? found anyone that is willing to cook rat yet :)?
tracey That place sounded great. not!!! I cant imagine you going to give someone a knuckle sarnie be careful xxxxx
john Skelton There is meat on a stick everywhere here. Mostly chicken and they do the whole chicken. I will get a pic to show you
