dzasta travels
From Trongsa the drive back was the same, you come back the same way so the same postcard scenery etc. Today the clouds were rolling in over the hills and the weather was decidedly cooler. The drive up to Pelela pass was up through the clouds and there was more snow than yesterday and a bitterly cold wind blowing. When Tensin tried to start a snow fight Phuntsho and I jumped back into the car and we all got going again without some pics cos it was too cold. The drive back took us past Phobjika, where the Black Neck Cranes come to from Tibet. They come for winter and have left to go back by now. The locals have no electricity cos they think it might interfere with the cranes so they are all on solar. Back near Punaka we stopped at another temple. This one was a fertility temple. Tensin explained more about deities and dharmas and Rinpoche and Shabdrung. Im getting a bit bogged down with all the philosophy and mysticism. The Punaka Dzong was Impressive. It is the winter home of the Monastic Body so you know it will be good. We had some trouble getting in there but eventually did and it was pretty remarkable. The pics, when I get to download them, will show inside first then the outside. They were building a new cantilever bridge in front and even that was impressive. Tomorrow Tigers nest.
