12th-15th April Koh Phangan
We left the hotel on the 12th at 9am to catch the boat to Koh Phangan. Straight to Hat Yao Beach (a quieter area on the famous 'party island'). We stayed in a bargain room on the beach, however it was very quiet so we decided to rent a Jeep for the following day at 20 Pounds split four ways!! Real bargain!! Ricky took on the roll of Chauffeur. We went on a quick mission to find the Tesco Lotus on the island before going to bed.13th we all drove with our bags to the South-East part of the island to find accommodation near the Blackmoon party. After a good few long hours of parking up, walking down the beach and checking out the rooms, we eventually found a huge bargain mini-resort with an incredible pool. The only downside was Ricky having to share a bathroom with 3 other girls, as we were 4 in a room with 2 double beds. The 13th was also the Thai New Year and every year, the main town Thong Sala descends into a massive water fight. We had the smart idea of exploring the Northern parts of the island and therefore getting caught up in the huge traffic of Thong Sala before the open roads towards the North. Lucy and Josie decided to jump in the open pickup part of the jeep where they joined in the water fights. After half an hour driving we got to a quite stretch of white sand in the North, on a beach called Baan Mae Haad. We had a pick-nick of crisps, oreos and peanuts for lunch and stayed there for a couple hours. That night was the Blackmoon party so we headed for Tesco Lotus to buy ingredients for our own buckets. We ended up buying plastic saucepans to use for buckets and a bottle of Sangsom with some coke. A total of 6 pounds- a cheap nights drinking!! We headed back to make our drinks and play some games. Before we new it it was getting close to 1am so we headed out to the Blackmoon party. Shockingly it was way too expensive and not worth the entrance fee, so we headed with a huge bunch of Swedes to Hat Rin beach (the location for the famous Full Moon Party). This was a good move as it was really busy and a lot of fun. Ricky got drawn in by the competitiveness of the Flaming High Jump competition and after a few near burns and a sooty face, he actually won!!! Therefore earning himself a free bucket. Woke up the next day at 10 and chilled by the pool and in the Hammocks for the whole day. Had dinner at Boat Ahoy and watched bit of tele before bed.
