We got up at 4.30 and got a tuk tuk to Angkor, the site of the famous Angkor Wat temple, to watch the sunrise over it. The architecture was incredible, and pictures from the sunrise are amazing. The only downside being how busy it was with tourists, although inevitable at such a place.
We looked around six other small temples including the one used in the first Tomb raider film, although we didnt realise that at the time...
After a lot of steps on empty stomachs we returned to PubStreet in Siem Reap for a crepe lunch, trying to find some evidence of the french colonial rule.
Our Tuk Tuk driver stayed with us for the whole day for 5 dollars each, and so in the afternoon we headed for the 'floating village', a forty minute ride away. This is basically a community that lives on boats at the Northerly tip of the Tonle Sap lake. Buildings nearby are built on 20 foot stilts due to the flooding in monsoon season. It was an interesting experience, especially buying pencils from one shop to give to children at the local floating school. Our measley 20 pencils didnt go far amongst the 200 odd pupils squeezed on a tiny boat.
After dinner (again on pub street) some of us headed for a mojito or four at a bar in the Night Market and then onto some dancing at a bar/club on Pub Street, with our tour guide Steve.
