OK, we have to say that we are loving it here so far! Our days have been filled with relaxing by the pool and lazily puting 4 meals a day on the tab! NICE! We actually have been doing many things though! On Sunday we went to the Nyepi Festival in Tanah Lot. Every Balinese town celebrates their Balinese Hindu new year by parading through the streets with statues they have made in their individual villages! The statues were actually fantastic! They were generally monsters of some sort! The craftsmanship of them all was masterful twinned with the ease of transporting them several miles for the benefit of the onlooking viewers. Our favourite bits of the festival were the poles that were made with hooks on the top to lift up the power lines with so that the statue could go underneath and secondly this one statue of a horse with the biggest dong that you have ever seen, the top of the dong had a bright light glowing on it! Fantastic!
We came back pretty late as it is a very long walk from the village to our hotel! As soon as we got back we watched Charlton Athletic turn in a masterful performance against Newcastle! Dubs was extatic! Unfortunately Arsenal were beaten, but Everton played really well and 3rd place pretty much looks like Arsenal's anyway. We have basically been getting football on tap here! It is really refreshing to finally come to a country where they call it Football as well! Since we have left the UK it has been soccer soccer and more soccer that it was getting to the point where it was really weird calling it football! Glad to see that Asians are on a level!
Yesterday was the day of Nyepi, so basically we spent s***loads of money lounging by the pool getting cocktails, swimming and relaxing. Dubs ended up playing horse in the swimming pool with this Malaysian Kid (The basketball game where you shoot and the next person copies you till u miss then u spell out the word Horse and then you lose! badly explained but you should know from PE days!) Yesterday was simply a day of R&R, the only lowpoint was Dubs getting stung by Charlotte Hornet herself! it was a humungous specimen! Dubs was in a lot of pain and now he can't suck his tummy in in the photos (for a week at least! ) sorry Henry! On the subject of Photos, we have not been able to load any up because you can not download the software off the internet to do so on any computer, we guess that internet is a pretty lucrative thing to have over here and they don't want their computers ridden with viruses! If all fails we are probably going to burn the photos onto a CD and hopefully Billy can upload them onto the journal himself! is that cool Billy??? We have some cool videos as well!
Today we took the free shuttle bus to Ubud. Ubud is far more advanced than Tanah Lot where we are staying, they have many restaurants, bureau de change's and fake shops of all the designer brands. We went into the Ralph Lauren shop and the Billabong shop, the owners went out of their way to get all the proper signs and flags to decorate the shop. We had a large look around the Monkey Forest Road (The main street) however, the main problem is the amount of people that hassle you! We heard the word "Transport" enough times to make our own Collins Oxford just out of that word! People are very friendly however, and they get the message that you are not interested after a while and just move on to the next tourist. The one thing we noticed about Bali after going to Ubud is how cheap it really is. Today we had breakfast, lunch, used the internet for an hour and did some food shopping for around eight quid! AMAZING!
Unfortunately we only have one full day in our hotel left, the place we have booked in Ubud is very basic, but it is clean! Unfortunately Dubs will not be able to nick any more soaps from the cleaning services! We will be in touch soon when we have more interesting things to chat about! We are looking forward to uploading some pics because the ones we have so far are immense!
Much love to you all! Dubs and Cess!
