Today we're heading to another homestay in the mountain village of Kyzyl Oi. It provides us with some stunning scenery and our first glimpse of yurts belonging to nomadic farmers. There are quite a few photo stops along the way. Every bend in the road seems to unveil a new vista. We are ucky enough to witness some hardcore white water rafters come down what can only be described as a raging torrent of a river. They were pushed hard up against a rock and took quite a few minutes to work themselves free. In the village we are billeted across 4 different houses. Our host families made us feel very welcome. A walk through the village and across a very dodgy suspension bridge put into perspective our location. Completely surrounded by mountains, some snow capped, some an intense reddish brown colour, and many tall poplar trees adding a dash of green. All 4 families contibuted to a magnificent dinner which we ate in a yurt that was pitched in the backyard of one of the houses. Today was also the 25th wedding anniversary of Jane, our British leader, which we celebrated with a home baked cake and vodka. I've drunk more vodka shots on this trip than think I have for my entire life. Not really my drink of choice, but when in Rome you must do as the Romans do! The curiousity, friendliness and hospitality of the locals remains strong no matter where you are.
