So yesterday we get flight down from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, realising on the flight we hadn't looked into where to stay in KL at all, and we never knew the airport was well outside the city itself! We ended up getting some advice from a Brit who was standing in front of us in the customs que. We ended up getting a bus to Chinatown where we managed to find a cheap double bed for just one night!
Chinatown was packed! Stalls selling everything and street food at every corner. We ended walking to the bus station to see if we could get a bus to the perhentian islands, and they said to just come back in the morning. By then Chinatown was being cleaned and packed up! It literally smelt like the Monday morning of Glastonbury! So much rubbish from just one night!
In the morning we found out that there was a demonstration happening and no buses were running from Chinatown. We ended up using an small map we had torn out from a travel guide in our hostels library to travel across the country 9 hours by literally just pointing at places!
We're now at Kuala Terengganu just south of the Perhentian Islands, so tomorrow we've got a short bus a boat ride to the islands. Hopefully spending 3-4 days there depending on how exciting it is!
Malaysia is a tad more expensive compared with Thailand, but you can tell it's more developed in general. The trains and buses are much better and everything is cleaner. Still can't wait to get to the islands and water!!
