Today, getting up was a world of sooky lala hurt for me. The NYE party last night at Beso Bar went on till past 4 pm. I guess the patrons were loud and unruly, but we only heard the throbbing nightmare of the music droning on and on and on!
It was so loud the whole house was vibrating and the items on the coffee table were bouncing around but I was too delirious with sleeplessness to get up and fix that.
Without fail, the 7 year old who slept fantastically, bounced awake at 7.
We had a lunch appointment at 1:30, so we dragged ourselves into the city on a nearly empty train at around 11 to first visit the 911 memorial. It was very unclear that we first had to get visitor passes about 5 blocks away before the actual location even though it is free. !!!!!!
So we didn't get in.
Actually being there was so surreal, a sombre time of reflection as I vividly remember the images I saw of that day. To be in the actual location brought home just a little if the awfulness of 9/11.
We walked an extra 5 blocks to the Staten Island ferry. There were myriads of people there. The day was already gloomy but the ferry was not great. It was the windows. You couldn't see for the mucky windows. On the way back we were on a far better ferry and we glimpsed the Statue of Liberty and she got closer and closer. I was thrilled as last time I saw her, she was hidden behind scaffolding!
We had another nightmare of getting off at the wrong place for our dinner reservation. The thought of walking 40+ blocks was NOT gonna happen. I did not even cope with the idea of trying to get closer via the subway.
We just hailed ourselves a li'l ol' taxi. We were well late. The food at this Afghan restaurant was certainly tasty but the servings were very light on meat and big on the salad and rice portions!
We got home very tired. The landlord snuck over 3 hours later than expected and the heater is now fixed. Phew!!
New York was the most adventurous part of our trip so far!
This next bit is the start of what i would consider the luxury part of our time. We have done the RV, the home stay , the dodgy city stay.... Now we are flying to Orlando and for ghd first : nights we are in a 3 bedroom condo while we do Universal Studios and sightsee. I am super super excited about our dinner tomorrow night. Fogo de Chao! It should be absolutely amazing.
Off to bed as we have to wake at 3:30 in the morning!

Robyn Oh that doesn't sound like fun. I hope the next leg is adventurous only in a very fun way and that you get some rest soon!
