Rome - Vesuvius - Pompeii - Sorrento
South all the way today, with the volcano Vesuvius in the distance. Then to Pompeii where time stopped in 79 AD when the Vesuvius eruption totally destroyed it. Pompeii was lost for nearly 1700 years before its rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city during the Pax Romana.
We continued our journey to Sorrento and enjoyed beautiful views of the Bay of Naples. We also saw the old mill ruins which date back to 600BC IL Vallone dei Mulini...with it's own micro climate these mill ruins are located in a deep gorge in Sorrento. Tonight we enjoyed an evening out dining in a typical Sorrento restaurant which was amazing. Walking back from dinner we saw a classical music festival in the square next to our hotel, what a way to end the day!!!!!!
