Vienna - Innsbruck
We travelled parallel with the Danube until we reached Salzburg which is on the banks of the Salzach River, at the northern boundary of the Alps. Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart. We walked through Mozartplatz which is located in the old town and visited the 3 metre high monument of the world-famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We also visited the Salzburg Cathedral (the Dom) which still contains the baptismal font in which composer Mozart was baptized. We went on the funicular railway up the hill to visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, built in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard which is the largest, fully-preserved fortress in central Europe. We also saw Mozarts birthplace, the home he was born in and visited the concert stage that was used in the musical "The Sound of Music". From here we travelled to Innsbruck and we had a great view of the Austrian Alps. A few of us walked to the local Hofburg and were entertained with classical music which was amazing.
