Leaving the shores of Eceabat we cross the Bosphorus by boat to Canakale and onto Troy (Asia Turkey). Although not the greatest archaeological site, Troy is perhaps Turkey's most famous - largely due to the writings of Homer. Many new excavations continue to this day. There was a wooden horse replica, which we all climbed and hung our heads out of the windows. We had a guided tour of the ruins with Mastifa. We then drove to Selcuk where we spent the night at the ANZ hostel. Selcuk is an interesting little place with some good shops, cafes and carpets. The hostel has hot showers and a great bar. We had a BBQ tea on the roof of the hostel. The host was using a hair dryer to try and cook the steaks faster. A few of us went for a walk to find one of the ancient wonders of the world, the Temple of Artemis. There was only a few columns remaining but it was awesome to see this site. After tea Mehmet (one of the workers at the ANZ) talked us into visiting his Carpet Shop - called Alibaba's. Had a great night, testing the carpets if they flew!! and drinking the local brew. I shared with Geraldine who snored all night!
