We decided to stroll up to the free waterfall today & was joined by Suzie. This however turned out to be a b**** of a hike! The walk was about 2 hours with most of it up bloody steep hills & part of it through the muddiest path I've ever come across. Rach & I did OK through the mud, but poor old Suze ended up about 8 inches deep in it & needed pulling out!! The one thing I must say is that I was most impressed (as was she), that Rach who doesn't do hills, managed the walk/climb with very little stopping or moaning! We finally reached the waterfall which saw Suze going right into it; me going about waist deep; & Rach getting her feet wet, as the water was FREEZING! The stroll back, passing huge blue butterflies & different birds (& hearing but not seeing Howler monkeys), was much easier, with pretty much all of it downhill. We still had to traverse the 500m muddy section, full of cows, but there were no really messy slips this time. We got back just as it was starting to rain & waited for the shuttle down to La Fortuna. We checked into the cheap Hotel Dorothy in the torrential rain, before grabbing a steak in town (I'd missed meat for the last 2 days!) & coming back to crash out early.
