Picked up our packed lunches at breakfast & lazily got a taxi to town. We decided not to scum it in the end & got a private boat for £12 each, which would take us to both islands that we wanted to go to (Isla de Sol & Isla de Lunar). So the 5 of us sailed off across the sapphire blue, crystal clear lake past the slowly overfilling public boats. 2 hours later & we were on Isla de Lunar climbing the steps to the very well preserved 1st load of Inca ruins of the day. The Incas used a similar style as on the pyramids, by not using mortar & instead cutting the rocks to a perfect shape for stacking. These ruins, surrounded by the tiered (Incan) hillsides, were actually bloody impressive. Another hour or so & half our dodgy packed lunch later, we landed at the Northern tip of Isla de Sol (where the first Incas came from!). We trekked for an hour into the hills to see the Sun's footprints, a sacrificial rock table & the very impressive ??????? ruins. Unfortunately it was here that my guts decided they weren't happy, so there was lots of leg crossing for me! As we headed back, Harry had a 'small' run in with a bull calf that tore a massive hole in the back of his trousers with it's horns! V.amusing to watch, until it's Dad almost joined in. However Harry managed to run off, (with his visible tail between his legs!) before that happened. The rest of us wisely passed more cautiously. Back across the beach to the boat for a quick sail round to the Southern tip of the island where we climbed shed loads of steps (with most of us stopping a few times to catch our breath, as we're still at 3500m+). The Inca fountain of youth at the top was unfortunately, not really worth the climb & after trying it, can confirm that it doesn't work! I still look at least 38, if not older! A quick purchase of a necklace from a cute kid that none of us could resist & then an easy clamber down to cruise back to town between the rocks. Our place served us tea when we returned, giving all 5 of us a lovely warm English feeling! In the evening in town, we all had steak to avenge Harry's attack, followed by Nachos, which Ross & I found had the strongest chillies ever on it. You'd think we'd have learnt by now, but no! After which it was cards (SH) & cocktails in the only warm place in town, (the Bar) before heading back. (The good news today was that we were informed that the border's open again, so Rach & I bought bus tickets to risk it tomorrow).
