So I loved Sydney - something missing though - like personality. It has beautiful beaches, a great train system (although EVERYONE there thinks it is bad - whatever) The school kids in Australia and NZ wear uniforms. What a GREAT idea....duh (saves kids separted by clothing, runners, hair do's etc etc - they all seem to be A-OK with it - hello) It has lots of expensive homes, shopping, outstanding scenery, lovely BEACHES, very English influence (but doesn't want to??) Not sure - there were so many lovely places but there is this overlaying insecurity about who they are - not sure why but it is 'in the air'. Sydney exemplifies the synopsis thus far of Autralia -seems they have a ways to go as an identity. sad they are 'selling out' to asia because they seem to override the locals. Hard to put my finger on it....
In the meantime, had a fabulous time in the Blue mountians, on my wine tour, bike tour, Captian Cook's dinner cruise, Manly beach etc, and of course....the Opera; Carmen.
When one travels for the 'life experience', you want to challenge your mind, spirit and soul - they way you think about the world. Australia has not done that for me thus far - I feel they are a trying to figure stuff out and I didn't feel I could learn much. Having said that - the scenery and 'htings to do' are well worth a visit - just not to 'change your life'....does this make sense??
