Machu Picchu

Mystical and magnificent Machu Picchu. After all the hype, I expected to be disappointed and relieved that I was anything but. The gods honoured our sun dance and blessed us with clear skys which made all the difference in the world.

We were among the first 5 people into the site - there is something so magical looking down through the clouds, as they hang between the mountains that surround this long, lost city and civilization, and seeing it completely empty.

Even more magnificent was being one of the first to climb to the top of Waynapicchu, the lime stone mountains that form the back drop of the scene. We sat on the peaks of this mountain, as the sun shone down forming a spotlight on the site. After a hour- long steep climb to the top, we hung out on the top with a handful of other travelers, soaking in the warm sun, overlooking the valley of mountains, imagining this quiet city in its day.
