After Hervey bay we decided to do a lot of driving to get up the coast quicker as there was not much in between there and Townsville. We did a major amount of driving in the first day and ended up staying in the middle of nowhere. A little place called Marlborough. This place literally had a post office a pub and a hotel and it was classed as a Town!
Next morning we were up at the crack of dawn only to be greeted by a couple of huge cane toads in the corridors. In which Dave ended up trodding on one by accident in the darkness. We set of early to get a full days' worth of travelling in. After a long drive we finally arrived in Townsville. It was a large town. Here we decided we would look for a job but again nothing prevailed. Townsville was a nice place with a nice beach but couldn't go for a swim because of the stingers in the water. They had a lovely outdoor swimming pool which we spent the day at. But other than that we didn't do much else in Townsville.
After a couple of days in Townsville we moved up to Cairns. This was the first place in Oz that we actually liked a lot. All the other places had a bad vibe or have been just too quiet. Cairns was a lot more backpacker friendly and had a lot more bars, restaurants and stuff to do. This was finally the place where we wanted to find a job. We applied for all sorts of things and one came good. We had a found a job in Cape Tribulation as a shop/café/tour assistant. We both got a job at the same place.
Finding a job allowed us then to relax a lot and enjoy Cairns. They had the best lagoon that we have seen yet. It was huge. We spent a couple of days by the lagoon and also by the pool in the Hostel. Plus we shopped for any last bits hat we needed before going to our job as it was going to be in the middle of nowhere.
We really enjoyed Cairns and afterwards on our way up to our job we stopped off in Port Douglas. Again this was really quiet but a nice place. Here we did a crocodile cruise up the river. The trip was good although we only spotted a small baby crocodile no big ones. We also saw a couple of white bellied eagles which are the second biggest bird of prey in Australia. We have pictures uploaded of them.
Our next blog will be soon, we are now heading for our job in Cape Tribulation. We will be in touch when we can because we won't be able to get a mobile signal or we don't have internet were we our staying as yet!
Hope your all well and you are enjoying the snow in the UK.
