New York New York.....
What can we say, it was fantastic and more then we expected, it sure is the city that dosent sleep. It was so great to be back in the heat and proper heat at that, although ive never had such dirty feet in my life. Amy and Nic had the fright of their lives when Dylan and I surprised them on our first morning, it was wonderful to see them again and be able to spend some time together before who knows when.
Every morning we ate in a little cafe a block from our hostel which was dirt cheap, always busy and had the best bagels ever! We did the Empire State Building on sunset which was awesome and gives you the best view of the whole city and surroundings. You dont realise just how big Central Park is until you see it from above.
We walked the Brooklyn Bridge, ate free pizza and beer at Rays Bar in Williamsburg. It wasent called Rays bar, that was our name for it as the bartender looked like Ray from Thirsty Mirc. That was one fun afternoon and very random at that. Williamsburg has a massive Jewish community which we soon realised when we got off the bus lost in the wrong end of town. While finding our right way we embarked on our own walking Jewish Tour. That was an eye opener.
Dylan and I jumped on a tour bus of the city which was great and got to snap some photos of the Hoff out on the street which was pretty funny. We also rode on the Statten Island Ferry past the Statue of Liberty and watched random people playing basketball in Greenwich Village on the street. Greenwich Village was nice and is home to the famous Magnolia Bakery which sells the best cupcakes ever, they are worth every bite. We walked and walked everywhere, pretty much covered all the important streets, 5th, Madison, Park and Broadway, etc. Times Square was non stop and so was the subway. The subways in New York are exactly what they are in the movies with the rats and all. Its so freaking hot you feel it on your feet and clothes instantly as soon as you walk down the stairs, and with train drivers who are on a death mission to injure you or give you whiplash. No one belives in slowing down, its all about peddle to the meddle and.....STOP!
We rode bikes through Central Park getting lost as you do even with a map, its that big. Drank plenty of Schnapple, walked some more, went to the movies, Wall Street, Ground Zero, splashed in water fountains and got absolutley drenched in a storm. We ate at a real mexican restaurant - Mama Mexico, was so good, they made fresh gaucomole in front of you to how you liked it - mild, hot or spicy. It was brilliant.
We found New Yorkers to be really nice and it was such a lovely feeling when they would say "your welcome" and "have a nice day" as they really meant it. We cant wait to go back and see more of the city as a week wasent long enough.
