...Surf Camp...
On Friday I had been travelling for six months and considering the majority of that time has been spent in Australia I thought it was about time I got round to having a go at one of the country's favourite past times. So after work I met up with Chloe to become surfer chicks for the weekend.
The mini-bus journey up there was quite funny as it gave us the chance to meet the rest of our surf group and get quite drunk in the process. The atmosphere of the trip was very reminiscent of Tidy weekenders and low and behold within five minutes of getting up the highway I find a fellow raver. Just a fast as I can say Dark By Design his got the Tidy Weekender 9 Pirates of Prestatyn CD blasting out over the speakers. Strangely enough I had my blagged T-Shirt from that weekend in my bag.
So over the next few days we spent our days at the beach trying to learn to surf and the evenings drinking.
I had a good go and managed to stand but I'll never be a surfer. It's a really hard sport to pick up and I've got a new found respect for the guys who make it look so easy. It was quite a giggle trying to learn but would take tons of practice to achieve the timing, co-ordination and upper body strength to do what can only be described as a yoga sequence to get you standing on the board riding the unpredictable waves of the ocean. Think I'll just wear Roxy and pretend.
Saturday night was quite a laugh playing some interesting drinking games that required us to do various challenges and tasks including dressing-up. Hence the reason why the guys are all parading around in my photos dressed as women… don't what it those give a bloke and excuse to wear girl's clothes and they go to town.
Although I'll never be a surfer it was a fantastic weekend and great to get out of the city for a few days. The countryside and coastlines here are beautiful. It was great getting to see wild kangaroos and the headland of Boomerang beach that was strangely shaped like the dog from the Never Ending Story.
