Yasou! We made it to Athens ok after a few cups of coffee and red bulls later.... I had the drive from Igoumenitsa which was around 6 hours.... I was pleasantly surprised though with the roads as i had visioned a lot worse.
Greece is a lot more mountainous than i had expected and driving into Athens City centre wasn't as hectic as i thought it would be.
After having an afternoon nap we ventured off out into the city - first things first - Souvlaki and a beer (lol)... Second thing on the agenda was a Frappe (was very good) I was rather surprised at the number of stray dogs and beggars (a lot were amputees).
The following morning Chris and I headed off to Plaka to catch the "Happy Train" we went up to the Acropolis (absolutely amazing - one doesn't realise how big a city is at times). We then went past the palace where we saw the changing of the guards (who were dressed in traditional uniform), through Monastiraki and Plaka (which is the old town).
We then went past Panathinakion Stadium which is the site of the first modern olympics (1896).
Did notice also that the Police in Athens do not do a great deal - people are selling items on the black market everywhere - the police come, get off their bikes and thats about it! Rather bizarre
