We hit the roads again as we set back out on the Irish roads with our final destination to be Cork. Our first stop after our Dublin visit was to be Limerick but we had a few things to see on our way there!!!
Our first stop was Newgrange, which was approximately a 30 min drive from Diblin. Newgrange is a 5000 year old prehistoric passage tomb. Older than the pyramids, it is quite amazing. Every year for the winter solstice it allows 17 mins of sunlight to travel 19 meters into the tomb, the formation of this tomb is quiet incredible. Our tour guide Sally took us into the tomb which is extremely narrow. - I must admit I had never thought of myself being afraid of tight spaces but the further underground we got my heart rate seemed to increase and I started to get sweaty - wasn't really the best time to find out that I don't like small spaces but I survived!!! After Newgrange, it was time for lunch - Sean found this random place off the beaten track called the snail box and inside was incredible. It housed over 1352 baseball caps on the roof and if you sent the restaurant a cap, they would send you a snail box cap. The food was quiet good as well offering cold meat and salad plates - which was a first!!
After lunch it was back on the road to go and see the Rock of Cashel. Once belonging to the overkings of Munster, it's main purpose was as a fortress
back in the 14th century. As it is undergoing a lot of restoration, there was a lot of the building that we could not go into and one section had been inundated with mould so it was going through a uv treatment process - we walked into the room and could see the extent of the mould - all I could of was Legionnaire's disease and didn't spend much time in there. After strolling around the grounds for around 30 mins marveling at the views, it was back in the road for our next quick stop inTipperary - where some of my ancestors were from. We stopped
in Tipperary town and Sean went into a pub to ask where the best photo spot would be that represented tipperary - 30 mins later we left the pub with absolutely no idea where any of the spots were but as we walked along I saw a sign post for Charleville and took a photo of that - close enough I say!!!
Back in the car again for our last stop for the day - Limerick!! Our choice of accomodation for the night was the boutique hotel - once again the desk was manned by some Eastern European lady. We got settled and headed to the pub just around the corner for dinner and drinks. Afterwards we just headed back to the hotel to try and catch up on some blogging and tv viewing as well as to try and get some sleep which we didn't have much of in dublin.
