Wellington, New Zealand
Friday 13th March
Today is the last of our New Zealand ports and we are in the capital, Wellington. We opted to walk into the city rather than take the shuttle bus. We walked all the way to Civic Square and had a lovely coffee on Queen's Wharf. As we have visited Wellington before we decided to spend the day walking around the harbour area. We returned to Queen's Wharf to have lunch on the upper verandah of a restaurant overlooking the harbour. After lunch we went to Te Papa which is New Zealand's national museum. It is a lovely museum, very well set out. On the Natural Environment floor there was an interesting area on the geological beginnings of New Zealand and how it stands on a fault line. We went into the Earthquake House to get a feeling of how scary it is to be inside a shaking building. We also visited the floor on Maori history. The photo is of the Te Hono ki Hawaiki one of the meeting houses inside the museum.
