Sunday 21st April
Today we arrived at our last port before we return to the UK. We are in Lisbon and it is a beautiful day - lovely sunshine and a gorgeous blue sky. We took a tour this morning that took us through lovely countryside to the town of Obidos. The town is built inside medieval walls and the castle is in the Manueline style. It a charming place with narrow winding cobblestoned streets. We tasted the local liqueur which is cherry brandy and is served in a little chocolate cup. Both the liqueur and the chocolate were delicious.
We had lunch back on the ship and then walked around the old part of Lisbon. We walked up some narrow steep roads where many buildings had traditional glaze tiled walls and went into Lisbon cathedral. We stopped for a drink in the pedestrianised area that leads to Black Horse Square.
We left Lisbon at about 6, sailing along the River Tagus, passing the statue of Jesus and under the 25th April Bridge. The noise of the traffic on the bridge is like a loud buzzing noise as you go under it. You can see both the statue and the bridge in the photo. We had a wonderful day at our final port.
