Phnom Penh
At Phnom Penh we were met by the owner of the airbnb in a Tuc Tuc and taken to the room. Our initial impression was it would do but after we had closed all the windows we realised it was full of mosquitos and there was nowhere to hang the mozzie net so Chris spent the next couple of hours hunting them down! I opened a draw and a cockroach scuttled across the back, then I opened the wardrobe and another one ran across the floor. Unfortunately they come with the territory in this part of the world! We decided we would put up with it for the one night as we would be leaving early the next day.
We had met a German couple on the boat and arranged to meet with them at the night market. It took us about 15 minutes to walk there through the usual chaos of bikes, cars and Tuc Tucs. At the market we found an outdoor eating area with mats as seating, with food stalls all around that you could buy and sit down on the mats to eat. After a very enjoyable meal we found an icecream and coconut stall - so nice to have a dessert for a change. Then it was off for a drink at one of the many bars that line the streets trying to attract westerners to spend their money.
We said goodbye to our friends as we were leaving early the next morning for Kratie and our two week teaching post at the Dolphin School of English.
