Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Having completed another days exploring this was my final evening in Taiwan as the next evening I would be in transit to Taipei Airport. I was asking in some of the bus companies how much it would be and how long it would take for a bus back to Taipei Airport.
I could take the high speed train from Kaohsiung in 1hr 40mins but wanted the slow six hour bus so I could sleep as I had two overnight flights.
One bus company had VIP style seats. Each had its own personal tv and wide bodied reclining seats like in first class. They wanted $600 TWD ($20) but said that I needed to change buses two times. That sounded like too much hassle for expensive VIP service
U-Bus only wanted $420 TWD ($14) and said there would be one change so that sounded like a better option. I asked if I needed to buy my ticket ahead incase the bus sold out but they said they have 15 min departures so it shouldnt be a problem buying a ticket tomorrow
I headed back to the night market for an evening snack and final souvenirs after having a strange encounter.
A guy whizzed over on his motorbike and started saying 'happy'. I thought he was trying to sell me something so ignored him but he kept saying 'happy'. I replied 'happy' a bit confused what this was all about.
Then he opened his wallet and started showing me pictures of women so thats that kind of 'happy' he was talking about!
Back in the night market I'd seen these pies baked in kilns but didnt get one as they had meat. Then today I saw they also had cheese ones with no meat so I tried one of those
It was only $40 TWD ($1.25) and quite delicious except hot fresh from the kiln. I then wanted to get a souvenir pineapple cake box, one for the teachers at school, one to send home.
I had five flights in the Philippines next and each only allowed 7kg hand luggage so I was worried about weight. Each of the boxes was 450g so already almost 1kg just in presents. I figured I'll just hold them and not put them in my bag incase it gets weighed.
It cost me $120 TWD ($4) for the two boxes. Then I wanted to try some spicy tempura squid which I'd had last year in Taiwan. This cost me $100 TWD ($3).
I was already a bit full from the cheese pie so wanted to save it for breakfast. The hotel didnt allow food in the room and said I had to eat it in their lounge area. I pretended to do so for about ten minutes then snuck back in my room when they were distracted.
