Adventures of a Global Wanderer
so last day in jakarata
my hotel is like my condo
i'm on the 10th floor so i just opened all the curtains for a city view
at night they were still doing fireworks all across town for eid
next morning tried to goto kota which is the old dutch port area
the street i am on is like university ave with 4 lanes of traffic each
way and a canal running down the middle
each side of the canal is a dedicated buslane which is like thier subway system
the are bus stations at different point and a bridge to cross each side of the road
bus fare is 3500 = .35 cents
so i took it to the end of the line which is kota the old dutch area
u see the dutch area but bldgs are falling apart and not maintained
they have a big town square with the palace and governers residence
which are musuems now with period furniture and dutch artwork
aside from that its not very well maintained
the canal smells like a sewer and there is piles of garbage
i tried walking to the maritime museum and watchtower and it was
like going thru a shanty town i was hoping i wouldnt get swarmed
its like christmas day here, everything is closed and roads mostly empty
i heard traffic is really bad so now is a good time to get around
i dont think my sister has made it to kota coz she is in the south and
the roads are so bad it would take 2 hours to get here
so the last hotel offered pigeon on the menu
today they showed on tv how to skin and cook a cobra!
i visited her house and they even have a pet frog playing in the garden
we went to the merdaka square where they have the monas tower
which a national monument u can go up but the line was too bad
so i said forget it
insted i went up this 7 storey car park to get
a good skyline view as the lights went down
today i will just take it easy and do some souvenir shopping
he said a good place to go is some mall called serena and on
the 4th floor they have all handcrats
i am looking to buy these batik shirts they make here from oil or wax
last nite we were in kemang which is where the expats live and
very upscale stores and restaurants
steak dinner for two with drinks was $31
the turkish restaurant where they dress up in costumes was closed for eid
anyway, have to rest for 22 hours of travelling on saturday
see u all next week
