Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Returning back to Trinidad about 2pm we had freetime till 5pm. I went back into the Old Town to check out the handcraft market.
In the main square I climbed the steps to the Casa de la Musica thinking it some kind of museum but it was just a restaurant. The Archaeology Museum was closed and the Romance Museum is closed for one year renovations so I never found out what it was.
I made my way to the Museo Historico. Entrance was $2P + $5P for camera. What! I gave $5P thinking she said $5 but she said ok and let me in.
There were historical period rooms in the ground floor wings around a central courtyard.
There was a staircase to go up then a spiral staircase to go up to the roof.
The final flight was tricky as you had to climb a very narrow staircase like a ladder on all fours to actually get onto the roof. There were nice city views but climbing down was tricky again in reverse on all fours.
Beside the museum in a sidestreet was a fabrics market. I found the bus terminal which was old with buses in very bad shape had I considered to do this tour on my own.
I needed something to eat and made my way back to the pizza restaurant from last night. One of our group was also there so I joined her table and ordered a reverse pizza in a wrap for $4P. It took a long 30 minutes to actually get served and I had to rush eating to be back at the meeting point for 5pm.
I rushed back to my Casa to get a towel and shorts before our afternoon beach excursion. We were able to drive our bus almost right onto the beach there were no other cars.
The sun was still strong and we swam for the first hour before cooling off as the sun began to set. The water was very salty and had grass like reeds floating.
As we sat on the beach we shared our rum bottle in a mini picnic watching others relaxing on the beach or smoking cigars. Finally we admired the sunset.
Heading back into town we were now going to have a salsa lesson before dinner. I was tired from swimming on the beach, walking in the old town, and our morning 7km round trip trek to the waterfall. We found our strength and managed the hour lesson although we had more women then men.
Our enthusiastic instructor then donned an apron and chefs had and became our waiter for the evenings meal. There was a variety of dishes including roast chicken, spaghetti, tuna fish mix, and rice pudding for dessert.
We had musicians playing and a short video is included below as our guides sang along to traditional songs.

It was a long tiring day with lots of activities and I looked forward to a good nights rest.
